PATNA: Bihar has set a record in the country by employing a staggering 2.17 lakh youth within 72 days. This remarkable accomplishment is attributed to two recruitment advertisements initiated by the Nitish Kumar-led government. On Saturday, the government handed out appointment letters to 96,823 individuals, marking the event with a ceremonial acknowledgement of their role as mentors.
The Nitish government’s dual recruitment drives have set a precedent in the country, offering a record number of jobs to the youth in an unprecedented 72-day timeframe. The commitment to job creation was underscored as the government distributed appointment letters to the latest batch of 96,823 individuals, elevating them to the esteemed position of mentors.
In a momentous event last year on November 2, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav personally presented appointment letters to 1,20,336 newly appointed teachers. The occasion was marked by a historic gathering at the Gandhi Maidan in Patna, where 26,925 teachers were personally handed their appointment letters. This event was telecast live across all district headquarters, allowing millions of residents to witness this historic milestone despite the bitter cold.
Addressing the newly appointed teachers, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar made a significant announcement regarding the forthcoming recruitment drive. He assured that appointments to vacant teacher positions would be expedited, to provide one million jobs and one million employment opportunities in the next 18 months. Chief Minister Kumar affirmed that Bihar has already provided government jobs to 3,63,000 youth and employment opportunities to 5,00,000 individuals.
In a move towards recognizing the contributions of teachers, Chief Minister Nitish announced that three and a half lakh employed teachers in Bihar would soon be granted the status of government teachers. The process would involve conducting examinations in three phases, and the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to completing this transition promptly.
Highlighting the government’s dedication to job creation, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pointed out that the goal is to provide over ten lakh government jobs to the youth. He clarified that the recruitment process extends beyond the education department, with plans for substantial employment opportunities across various sectors in the coming years.
Acknowledging the role of women in the workforce, the Chief Minister expressed joy at the fact that 51 per cent of the newly appointed teachers are women. He emphasized that the appointments have significantly improved the student-teacher ratio in Bihar, now standing at 35:1, marking a positive stride toward ensuring quality education. The Chief Minister also welcomed individuals from other states and countries who have become teachers in Bihar, promoting inclusivity in the recruitment process.
