Patna: Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, has announced plans to reopen all closed sugar mills in the state, promising a boost to farmers, labourers and local youth. Speaking in Chhapra during his Samriddhi Yatra. Choudhary said the government aims to generate employment within Bihar and curb outward migration.
“Bihar is no longer focused solely on education, health, roads and electricity,” Choudhary said. “The state is now rapidly expanding its industrial and employment sectors, ensuring young people do not have to leave for work elsewhere.”
Industrial Growth and Investor Incentives
Choudhary highlighted the state’s industrial policy, calling it one of the country’s best. Under the scheme, land is being offered to investors at a nominal rate of one rupee, while loans are approved within 15 days. The incentives have already attracted large-scale investments, including semiconductor factories, he added.
Building on Nitish Kumar’s Development Journeys
The Deputy Chief Minister credited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s outreach campaigns – Nyay Yatra, Pragati Yatra and Samriddhi Yatra – with laying the groundwork for Bihar’s development. “Through these journeys, the government directly understood public needs, enabling historical progress in roads, education, health and electricity,” he said.
24-Hour Electricity for Villages
On power supply, Choudhary noted a dramatic turnaround. “There was a time when cities barely received five hours of electricity. Today, villages also have 24-hour supply,” he said. Around 19 million families receive up to 125 units of free electricity, resulting in zero electricity bills for approximately 17 million households.
Infrastructure and Connectivity
Highlighting infrastructure plans, Choudhary announced that an airport would soon be built in Chhapra, improving connectivity for Saran and neighbouring districts. “Roads now link every village to urban centres, and the airport will boost trade and tourism,” he said.
Employment Targets and Skill Development
Choudhary said the government has taken youth skill development “on a mission mode,” creating a dedicated department to train young people for industry needs. He claimed that 50 lakh government jobs and employment opportunities were provided over the past five years, with a target of generating one crore jobs in the next five.
“Bihar is now on the path of transformation. Industry, employment and development are advancing together,” he added.
