Patna: A 86-day-long strike by revenue employees in Bihar came to an end on Thursday after the state government reached an understanding with their representatives following talks with the Department of Revenue and Land Reforms.
The decision to withdraw the agitation was announced after discussions with Jay Singh, secretary of the department, during which officials assured the employees that their 17-point charter of demands would be addressed in a phased manner.
According to the agreement, demands falling within the department’s jurisdiction are expected to be resolved within a week, while issues requiring approval at the state government level are likely to be taken up within a month.
The strike had begun on February 9, disrupting routine revenue-related work across the state as employees pressed for long-pending administrative and service-related reforms.
Members of the employees’ delegation said the decision to call off the protest followed what they described as a “serious and positive” response from the government during negotiations.
The delegation included Dr Chandrashekhar Chaubey, Phool Kumar Jha, Laxmi Kant Jha, Ram Kumar Jha, Ramoday Kumar, Harish Kushwaha, Indrajit Kumar, Sunil Thakur and Abhishek Trivedi, among others.
