Hajipur: A tragic road accident in Bihar on Tuesday morning claimed three lives and left seven others seriously injured. The incident took place near Kanchanpur Dhanushi village on the Hajipur–Lalganj state highway (SH-74), where a speeding bus crashed head-on into an auto-rickshaw. Local officials said two of the injured are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at Sadar Hospital. The sudden crash has once again raised questions about speeding and road safety in the region.
People present at the scene said the collision was so severe that the auto-rickshaw was completely crushed. They described hearing loud screams as passengers struggled to escape the wreckage. Villagers from nearby areas rushed to help within minutes, pulling the injured out and arranging to send them to hospital. Many locals said the passengers had no time to react, as the auto was destroyed instantly upon impact.
According to initial information, the auto-rickshaw was travelling from Hajipur towards Lalganj, while the bus was coming from the opposite direction. The two vehicles collided violently near the village, leaving most of the damage on the auto-rickshaw’s side. Tension rose quickly as more villagers gathered, shocked by the sight of the dead and critically injured passengers. Soon after, residents blocked the Hajipur–Lalganj main road, shouting slogans and accusing the authorities of failing to curb reckless driving. Among the injured is 27-year-old Ranjit Rai, who had returned from Tamil Nadu and was on his way to Hajipur Junction.
Lalganj SDPO Gopal Mandal reached the accident site with a police team and attempted to calm the angry crowd. He requested villagers to clear the blockade and assured them that the matter would be properly investigated. Mandal confirmed that one person died on the spot, while two others died during treatment. He added that the remaining injured were taken to Sadar Hospital and that further inquiries are underway to determine what caused the collision. The police have begun collecting statements from eyewitnesses as part of the investigation.
