Patna : Bihar’s new road maintenance policy has brought roads shorter than one kilometre under the regular maintenance framework, with the construction companies responsible for maintaining these stretches for seven years.
The maintenance packages prepared under the policy include short road stretches from several districts across the state. Patna has a particularly large number of such small roads included in its package.
Under the new arrangement, the companies that constructed or have been assigned the relevant road packages will also be responsible for their upkeep during the stipulated maintenance period.
Several Short Roads Included In Patna Package
The road maintenance package prepared for Patna includes several stretches that are less than one kilometre long.
A 0.17-km service lane near Sona Medical Hall on the Income Tax Golambar-Taramandal stretch of Nehru Path has been included.
Similarly, the road from Purnendunagar in Phulwarisharif to the residence of Yogendra Bhagat is 0.10 km long.
Other short stretches in the Patna package include New Dakbungalow Road (0.40 km), Bank Road (0.80 km), Bandar Bagicha (0.10 km) and the Chitkohra Golambar-to-Ashnarohi military base stretch (0.22 km).
Biharsharif Also Has Multiple Short Stretches
Several roads shorter than one kilometre in and around Biharsharif have also been included in the maintenance package.
These include the Nalanda College Road-to-Baradari stretch (0.43 km) and the Power Grid Kalyanbigha-to-Harnaut Railway Station road (0.33 km).
The Dipnagar Market Road is 0.70 km long, while the Kalyanbigha bypass-to-Chero-Bahadurpur link road covers 0.28 km.
The Indo-Hokke Link Road in Rajgir is 0.95 km long and has also been included.
The maintenance of these stretches will remain the responsibility of the respective construction companies for the prescribed seven-year period.
Short Roads In Other Districts
The policy covers similar stretches in several other districts.
In Bodh Gaya, the road from Tibet Dharmashala to Hotel Om International measures 0.58 km.
In Motihari, the road from the petrol pump to Gayatri Mandir is 0.45 km long, while Revaghat Road in Muzaffarpur measures 0.60 km.
The package also includes Railway Overbridge Road in Samastipur (0.43 km) and the Barhauni Railway Station Road in Begusarai (0.90 km).
Contractors To Remain Responsible For Upkeep
The inclusion of these very short stretches marks a broader approach to road maintenance, bringing roads that may otherwise be overlooked because of their limited length into a defined maintenance system.
Under the policy, the designated construction companies will remain responsible for maintaining the roads for seven years.
The arrangement is intended to ensure that maintenance responsibilities are clearly assigned even for smaller road stretches and that complaints related to their condition can be addressed through the designated maintenance mechanism.
With short roads across districts now included in the packages, the policy puts the responsibility for maintaining these stretches on the agencies that have been assigned the respective road works.
