Patna: The Bihar government has taken a strict decision to seize vehicles parked on the roadside in order to reduce increasing road accidents. Transport Minister Shravan Kumar has ordered officials to take strong action against drivers and owners who leave their vehicles unattended on highways for long periods. This decision comes as road accidents continue to happen every day in the state, raising serious safety concerns.
In 2024 alone, around 32 road accidents were recorded daily across Bihar. Despite growing awareness, many motorists still ignore safety guidelines and park their vehicles carelessly on the roadside. The government has been working continuously to prevent accidents, and the newly appointed Transport Minister has now taken a major step to ensure safer roads.
Shravan Kumar has made it clear that any four-wheeler or larger vehicle — including buses, trucks, tractors and cars — parked roadside for two days or more will face strict punishment. Both vehicle owners and drivers will be held responsible. Action will include heavy fines, licence suspension and confiscation of the vehicle. Strict enforcement teams have been instructed to follow the rules without exceptions.
Government officials say that during winter, dense fog causes very low visibility, making roadside parking extremely dangerous. Many high-speed vehicles crash into parked trucks and buses hidden by fog, leading to serious injuries and deaths. To prevent this, special preparations are being made across all districts to remove unattended vehicles from highways and avoid accidents. The goal is to make Bihar’s roads safer and reduce the number of winter road accidents.
