Patna: A 32-year-old man was beaten to death in Bihar’s Rohtas district following a dispute over land, police said, after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
The victim, identified as Hasan Raza, also known as Atif Khan, was allegedly attacked in Moradabad village under the Sasaram Mufassil police station area.
According to police, the incident stemmed from a disagreement between partners over money received from a land deal. The argument escalated into violence, during which the man was assaulted with sticks, bricks and stones.
A video circulating online appears to show the victim being beaten and dragged along a road in broad daylight. Police said the footage helped identify those involved.
Sasaram SDPO Kumar Vaibhav said two people had been arrested in connection with the case, while a minor had also been apprehended. He added that the victim’s body was later moved and dumped in another police station area in an apparent attempt to mislead investigators.
Officials said a long-standing dispute over land ownership existed between the parties involved, which may have contributed to the escalation.
The victim’s family has alleged that he was targeted during the altercation and called for strict action against those responsible.
Police said further investigation is under way, and additional arrests are likely.
