Patna: Lakhs of devotees gathered at Patna’s Mahavir Mandir in the early hours of Ram Navami, with long queues forming soon after the temple doors opened at 2am.
By morning, the line of devotees had stretched for nearly a kilometre, reaching up to the GPO roundabout, as chants of “Jai Shri Ram” echoed through the area. Officials estimate that around 400,000 people may visit the temple over the course of the day.
The temple has been decorated with around 600kg of flowers sourced from Kolkata, while arrangements have been made to shower petals on devotees. Authorities have also installed 20 LED screens to facilitate live darshan and an 80-ton air-conditioning system in the sanctum to provide relief from the heat.
Fifteen counters have been set up for the distribution of prasad, with preparations under way for approximately 24,000kg of naivedyam laddoos. Officials said 18,000kg had already been prepared, with additional quantities to be arranged if required.
Several political and religious figures visited or are expected to attend the celebrations, including Bihar governor Syed Ata Hasnain and chief minister Nitish Kumar. Deputy chief ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha are also scheduled to be present.
The festivities extend beyond the temple, with 52 processions planned across Patna. The Dak Bungalow crossing has been designated as the central venue, where a large gathering is expected.
Authorities said special arrangements have been made for crowd management and security, with the celebrations reflecting a blend of traditional rituals and modern infrastructure.
Officials have urged devotees to follow guidelines to ensure a safe and orderly observance of the festival.
