Rohtas: A sand trader in Rohtas district, Bihar, has claimed he was threatened with death unless he paid Rs. 5 crore within five days, prompting police to open an investigation into what they described as a serious case of intimidation and organised crime.
The trader, whose identity police have withheld for security reasons, filed a written complaint at the local police station after receiving a WhatsApp call on 28 November from a number carrying a Malaysia country code. According to the complaint, the caller warned him that if he failed to pay, he would be “sent to meet Prabhuji.”
‘The bullet will hit its mark’
In his statement, the trader said the caller declared: “You’re doing business and making money. Now it’s our turn. My shooters never miss — the bullet will hit its mark.”
The threat left him “terrified and distressed,” officers said. The caller also sent follow-up messages repeating the extortion demand.
Caller claimed to be a criminal’s brother
Police officials said the man who made the call identified himself as the younger brother of a notorious Bihar gangster. He allegedly boasted of having shooters capable of carrying out an assassination even if the trader employed bodyguards or travelled in a bulletproof vehicle.
The demand was explicit: either pay Rs. 5 crore in five days, or “face the consequences”.
Police begin investigation
Shivendra Kumar, Station House Officer of Dehri, confirmed that the complaint had been received and an investigation initiated.
“The application has been filed. We are examining the matter with full seriousness. It is too early to comment before the investigation is complete,”
he said.
Police are currently verifying the origin of the call, analysing the WhatsApp logs and assessing possible links to interstate or international crime networks.
A growing pattern of high-value extortion
The case adds to a series of recent extortion attempts targeting business owners and public figures in Bihar. Earlier, a battery trader in Patna and even a sitting MP were reportedly threatened for large sums of money.
