Patna: The opening day of the Bihar Assembly session on Monday saw a series of stumbles during the oath-taking ceremony, prompting repeated interventions from Pro-tem Speaker Narendra Narayan Yadav, who urged MLAs to adhere to correct pronunciation and procedure.
Former deputy chief minister and BJP MLA from Bettiah, Renu Devi, faltered during her oath and required two attempts to complete it. Congress legislator Manoj Vishwas took three attempts.
One of the most noticeable moments occurred when Vibha Devi, the RJD MLA from Nawada and wife of convicted former legislator Rajballabh Yadav, struggled to recite the oath correctly. Fellow MLA Manorama Devi, seated beside her, guided her through the text. At one point, Vibha Devi was heard saying, “Chutki, read it, tell me,” as members around them turned to look.
Another RJD MLA from Nawada district, Anita Kumari — the wife of alleged strongman Ashok Mahto — began reciting an oath different from the one prescribed. The Pro-tem Speaker halted her mid-sentence before she corrected her mistake. This marks her first term in the Assembly.
Krishnandan Paswan attempted to swear in the name of both God and truthfulness, prompting another interruption from Yadav, who reminded him that he must choose a single option. Paswan then repeated the oath correctly.
