Patna: In what has been hailed as a historic step towards the dignity and welfare of sanitation workers, Bihar’s Road Construction Minister and BJP MLA from Bankipur, Nitin Nabin, on Saturday announced the creation of the Bihar State Sanitation Workers Commission.
The move, he said, reflects the government’s commitment to upholding the rights of those who form the backbone of urban hygiene and public health. “Sanitation workers are the true custodians of cleanliness and a progressive society. This commission is a testament to our sensitivity and resolve to support them with dignity and justice,” Nabin said.
He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Mission for turning cleanliness into a mass movement, adding that such missions can only achieve lasting impact when the most critical participants — the sanitation workers — are accorded the respect and support they deserve.
According to Nabin, the new commission will consist of a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, and five members — including at least one woman or transgender member, in line with the government’s inclusive ethos. The body will be responsible for addressing worker grievances, ensuring access to welfare schemes, and supporting rehabilitation and social upliftment efforts.
Nabin also expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, saying the initiative embodies the spirit of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas”.
