Patna: A five-year-old boy has been killed at a private school hostel in Bihar’s Jehanabad district, prompting protests that led to the blockade of a national highway.
The child, identified as Ashu Kumar from Bulaki Bigha village in the Karouna police station area, was found with his throat slit under what authorities described as suspicious circumstances. He had reportedly moved into the hostel only 10 days before the incident.
Family members attempted to rush the critically injured child to Patna Medical College and Hospital, but he died on the way, according to local reports. News of his death sparked anger among relatives and residents, who gathered at the school premises in protest.
Demonstrators later blocked National Highway 22 near Kanaudi on the Patna–Gaya route, bringing traffic to a standstill for several hours.
Police officers were deployed to the scene and managed to disperse the crowd and clear the road after negotiations. The child’s body has been sent to Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear and that an investigation is under way to determine those responsible and establish a motive.
