Vaishali/Patna: The threat to RJD candidate Shivani Shukla, daughter of jailed former MLA Munna Shukla, was immediately escalated by police following a chilling call on Thursday evening.
According to a statement from SDPO Sadar-2 Gopal Mandal, the district control room first received a call reporting a “major incident” in Ghataro. When the Kartahan police station in-charge called the number back, it was switched off. Moments later, the caller dialed the official Kartahana police station mobile number directly.
The caller told the Station In-Charge that Shivani had a “lot of money,” demanding a ransom payment and threatening to “shoot her when the situation worsened” if the money was not paid. The caller brazenly added, “Save her if you can.”
Police were immediately put on high alert. The District Technical Branch retrieved the Subscriber Detail Record (SDR), which traced the threatening mobile number (7479749222) to Randhir Kumar, a resident of Dhanushi. Police acted swiftly to arrest Randhir Kumar.
Prime Suspect is History-Sheeter Ranjeet Kunwar
During interrogation, the arrested accused, Randhir Kumar, admitted that the SIM card was registered in his name but claimed it was being used by his brother, Ranjeet Kunwar, who resides in Hyderabad.
Further technical tracing by the police confirmed the mobile’s tower location was indeed in Hyderabad. The investigation into the identity of the prime suspect, Ranjeet Kunwar, also revealed a significant criminal history, including a past jail term for a murder case in Hajipur and a separate rape case in Hyderabad.
Based on this information, the Kartahan police station in-charge, Kunal Azad, has filed an FIR against Randhir Kumar, his father Rajendra Kunwar, and the prime suspect Ranjeet Kunwar.
“Taking this incident seriously, the police took prompt action and arrested one of the accused. He is being interrogated,” SDPO Gopal Mandal stated. “A police team has also left for Hyderabad to arrest the main accused, Ranjeet Kunwar.”
Meanwhile, the security of the RJD candidate has been beefed up by the district administration, which has provided her with two armed security personnel to ensure her safety during the election campaign.
