Patna: Bihar has stepped up efforts to implement the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with Jivika Didis set to assist households with the installation of rooftop solar systems.
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to accelerate implementation of the scheme and work towards a target of 2.5 million solarisations through the involvement of Jivika Didis.
Solar Systems For Poor Households
Under the first phase of the state’s plan, rooftop solar plants with a capacity of 1.1 kW will be installed at the homes of 250,000 economically weaker families.
The wider plan aims to provide solar power to around 5.8 million poor families across Bihar. The government has prepared a roadmap to install solar systems in around 2,000 homes every day to meet the target.
Jivika Didis, associated with Bihar’s rural livelihoods programme, will help households access information and assistance related to the installation process.
Focus On Rural Households And Farmers
Choudhary also directed officials to ensure that the benefits of solar-based schemes, including solar pumps, reach farmers and rural households.
During a review of Jivika-related schemes, he called for expanding the role of Jivika Didis in the solar energy sector and involving more women in the implementation of such initiatives.
Subsidy Of Up To Rs 98,000
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, the central government provides a subsidy of up to Rs 78,000 for domestic rooftop solar systems of 3 kW capacity or more.
The Bihar government has also decided to provide an additional Rs 20,000 assistance for 3 kW solar plants. Eligible consumers can therefore receive total financial support of up to Rs 98,000.
Residents seeking to install rooftop solar systems can check eligibility requirements, subsidies and the application process through the official PM Surya Ghar website.
Officials have urged residents to obtain information about the scheme and make use of the available financial assistance.
