Patna: Senior officials from Bihar’s Department of Art, Culture and Youth inspected preparations at Patliputra Railway Station on July 3 ahead of the state’s Somnath Yatra, scheduled to begin on July 20.
The inspection was led by Pranav Kumar (IAS), Secretary of the Department of Art, Culture and Youth. Ruby (IAS), Director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, and Krishna Kumar (IAS), Director of Museums, also attended the review.
Review of Pilgrim Facilities
Officials examined arrangements for the reception and registration of pilgrims, seating, platform management, security, medical assistance, drinking water, sanitation, information help desks, luggage handling, and other essential services.
During the inspection, instructions were issued to the concerned officials and implementing agencies to complete all arrangements in a timely and organised manner.
Focus on Safety and Coordination
According to the department, the Somnath Yatra is being organised as part of the upcoming Somnath Swabhiman Parv – 1000 Years of Remarkable Faith.

Pranav Kumar said the initiative is an important cultural and spiritual programme of the Government of Bihar. He said the department aims to provide every pilgrim with a safe, convenient, and dignified travel experience and stressed the need for effective coordination among all participating agencies.
Meeting With Railway Authorities
A review meeting was also held with representatives of the railway administration and other concerned agencies to assess operational preparedness and discuss arrangements required for the successful conduct of the journey.
The discussions covered coordination between departments and the execution of logistical and passenger support measures.
Around 1,100 Pilgrims to Travel
According to the department, around 1,100 pilgrims will depart from Patliputra Railway Station on July 20 aboard a special train for the Somnath Yatra.
The Bihar government will provide accommodation, food, local transport, medical assistance, security, and other essential facilities for pilgrims during the journey.
