Patna: Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), affiliated with Patna University, concluded its Orientation Programme for newly admitted Semester I students. The programme introduced students to academic life, institutional values, career opportunities and campus support systems through a series of interactive sessions.
The event began with the rendition of the College Anthem, led by Dr Sister Nelsa A.C., Assistant Professor in the Department of English.
Session on Gender Awareness
A session on gender awareness was delivered by Professor Shefali Roy, an alumna of Patna Women’s College, former Head of the Department of Political Science and former Cultural Coordinator. She currently serves as Director of the Institute of Public Administration and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Patna University.
Addressing the students, Roy spoke about the importance of embracing diversity, challenging gender stereotypes and encouraging women to become agents of positive social change.
Introduction to Campus Life
Dr Soofia Fatima, Dean of the Faculty of Commerce and Management and Head of the Department of Commerce, introduced students to the college’s committees, clubs, societies and code of conduct. The session aimed to familiarise new students with the institution’s academic and extracurricular framework.
Students also attended a joint session by Adweetiya Sinha, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, and Amrita Prakash, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Applications and Coordinator of DISHA. They explained the role of DISHA, the college’s coaching, placement and career counselling cell, and outlined the support available for students’ professional development.
Interactive Activities and Principal’s Address
An entertainment and refreshment segment was conducted by Dr Manjula Sushila, Assistant Professor in the Department of Hindi and Sports Coordinator, along with Quazi Bushra Ahmed, Sports Teacher at the college.
The programme also featured a presidential address by Principal Dr Sister M. Rashmi A.C., who encouraged students to strive for academic excellence while focusing on their overall personal development through active participation in college life.
Programme Concludes With Prayer Service
The orientation concluded with a prayer service led by Dr Sister Nelsa A.C., followed by spiritual readings from holy scriptures presented by Semester I students.
The event was moderated by Vaishnavi Srivastava, Joint General Secretary of the Student Council for 2026–27. According to the college, the programme was organised under the guidance of cultural coordinators Dr Sister Celine Crasta A.C., Enakshi Dey Biswas and Puja Kumari.
