Muzaffarpur: Langat Singh (LS) College celebrated its 127th Foundation Day on Friday with a seminar on the “Role of National Education Policy in Accelerating Academic and Social Development in Bihar” at the Acharya J.B. Kripalani Auditorium.

The programme began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guests, followed by the garlanding of statues of eminent leaders on the college campus.

Principal Highlights College’s Progress

Welcoming the guests, Principal Prof. Kanupriya described the institution’s 127-year journey as a reflection of its enduring commitment to education.

She said the occasion was not only an opportunity to celebrate the college’s achievements but also to prepare for future challenges. Referring to developments over the past year, she said the college had strengthened its academic standards while expanding sports and cultural activities with support from the university and the guidance of the Vice-Chancellor.

NEP 2020 Can Strengthen Bihar’s Education System

Delivering the keynote address, Director of Higher Education Prof. N.K. Agarwal said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is more than a policy document and aims to nurture creativity and skills among young people.

He said the policy is playing a significant role in strengthening Bihar’s educational and social framework by promoting innovation and holistic learning.

Vice-Chancellor Calls for Innovation and Research

Presiding over the event, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Chandra Rai paid tribute to the college’s founder, Babu Langat Singh, saying his vision helped establish LS College as a leading centre of higher education in the region.

Prof. Rai said the institution has a distinguished legacy and expressed confidence in its future. He urged faculty members and staff to work collectively to further strengthen the college.

He said higher educational institutions must move beyond producing degree holders and instead focus on developing innovators, researchers, and global thinkers. According to him, NEP 2020 represents not only an academic reform but also an effort to move beyond colonial educational approaches while reviving India’s traditional knowledge systems.

The Vice-Chancellor said colleges should contribute directly to solving social challenges through research, patents, and innovation. He added that LS College should play a leading role in research that benefits local agriculture, industry, and society.

Addressing students, Prof. Rai encouraged them to dream big, remain curious, and stay connected to their responsibilities towards society, their institution, and the nation. He said the university aims to combine modern technology and knowledge with strong human values.

Academicians Attend the Programme

The programme was conducted by NSS Programme Officer Dr. Shashikant Pandey, while Dr. Radha Kumari delivered the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by several academicians and guests, including Prof. T.K. Dey, Prof. S.R. Chaturvedi, Prof. Pushpa Kumari, Prof. Shailendra Sinha, Dr. Sanjay Sinha, Dr. Shartendu Shekhar, Dr. Rituraj Kumar, Dr. Navin Kumar, Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Dr. Reema Kumari, Dr. Rajesh Anupam, Dr. Sandhya Kumari, Dr. Imtiaz, and Sanjeev Choudhary, among others.
