Saharsa/Patna: Construction of the high-level bridge between Dengrahi and Khochardeva in Salakhua block has slowed after the Kosi river’s rising water level affected work inside the river channel, officials and local sources said.
The construction agency has temporarily suspended several key operations within the river because of strong currents and safety risks. Water has reached the under-construction piers, while large parts of the surrounding worksite have been inundated, making it difficult for labourers and technical staff to continue operations.
Heavy machinery and technical work around the well foundations have also been halted as a precaution.
Project faces fresh delay
The bridge project at Dengrahi Ghat, estimated at Rs. 414 crore, was approved nearly two years ago. It is seen as a key infrastructure link for people living in Kosi diara areas, where connectivity remains difficult during much of the year.
However, the project has already seen slower-than-expected progress because of administrative and technical delays. The latest disruption could further affect timelines if water levels continue to rise.
Key link for Kosi belt
Residents say the bridge is expected to improve year-round connectivity across the river and support easier access to education, healthcare, agriculture and trade.
Local villagers said prolonged flooding could delay construction further, extending travel difficulties for people in the region.
Work continues on dry sections
Officials said work on the dry stretches on both sides of the river, including bell foundation-related activities, is continuing.
The construction agency and departmental officials are monitoring the Kosi river’s water level and said work inside the river will resume once conditions become safe.
