Patna: State health secretary Kumar Ravi on Friday inspected redevelopment and expansion works at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna and reviewed the progress of several under-construction healthcare projects.
During the visit, Ravi assessed the status of the 500-bed teaching hospital, the 1,200-bed hospital, hostels and residential buildings. He also held a review meeting with institute officials and construction agencies to evaluate progress and identify pending work.
Deadline for 500-bed teaching hospital
At the review meeting, the health secretary directed the construction agency to expedite work on the 500-bed teaching hospital and complete it within the next three months.
Ravi said progress would be reviewed every week to monitor adherence to timelines.
He also instructed officials to prioritise both internal and external HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) work, setting August 31, this year as the deadline for completion.
The pending HVAC-related work includes installation of the chiller plant, cooling towers, pumps, water treatment systems, along with associated piping and ducting.
Progress on 1,200-bed facility
The secretary also reviewed the construction of the 1,200-bed hospital, hostels and residential complexes.
Officials informed him that 59.24% of the work on the project has been completed so far.
Ravi asked the agencies to accelerate work and ensure that all construction is completed within the stipulated time frame while maintaining quality standards.
Focus on healthcare infrastructure
At the end of the review, Ravi said the state government remained committed to strengthening Bihar’s healthcare infrastructure.
He directed the executing agencies to complete all projects on schedule and with quality, stating that the expansion would help improve access to modern healthcare services for the public.
