Patna : Bihar’s Sports Minister, Surendra Mehta, unveiled the Indian Sepaktakraw team jersey at a ceremony held at Patliputra Sports Complex on Tuesday. The event was attended by Bihar State Sports Authority Director Ravindra Nath Choudhary, Sepak Takraw Federation of India President Yogendra Singh Dahiya, and members of the Indian team.

Speaking at the event, Mehta described Bihar’s role in hosting the Sepaktakraw World Cup as a moment of pride for the state. “Thanks to the continuous efforts of the Bihar government towards the development of sports and athletes, Bihar is reaching new heights. The sports movement has now expanded to villages, identifying and nurturing talent at the grassroots level. Hosting this World Cup will not only boost the morale of Bihar’s players but also enhance the state’s image on the global sports stage,” he said.
Mehta met the Indian players and encouraged them ahead of the tournament. As per an agreement between the Sepaktakraw Federation of India and the Bihar State Sports Authority, the Indian team’s jersey will feature Bihar’s name for the next year, a move aimed at strengthening the state’s presence in international sports and boosting tourism.
For the first time, Bihar will host the Sepaktakraw World Cup from March 20 to 25 at Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna. The tournament will see participation from 20 countries, with over 300 athletes and trainers taking part.
Teams from Japan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Iran, Vietnam, India, Brazil, Poland, France, Nepal, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, the United States, Singapore, Switzerland, Indonesia, Italy, and Chinese Taipei will compete in a series of matches. The tournament will feature seven events across Regu, Doubles, and Quad categories, including three men’s, three women’s, and one mixed event. As hosts, India’s men’s and women’s teams will participate in all events.
A total of 150 matches will be played over the six-day tournament, showcasing one of Southeast Asia’s most exciting and fast-paced sports on an international platform.
