Patna: The state government has filled two vacant posts in the Bihar Rajya Nagrik Parishad, appointing Dr Ajay Kumar Singh of Siwan as vice-chairman and Harendra Bahadur Singh of Bhojpur as general secretary.
The appointments were announced through Notification No. 495 issued by the Cabinet Secretariat Department on August 31 and came into effect immediately.
Ajay Kumar Singh appointed vice-chairman
According to the notification, Dr Ajay Kumar Singh, son of late Bacheshwar Singh and a resident of Nandmura under Siswan police station in Siwan district, has been nominated as the council’s vice-chairman.
His appointment has given Siwan representation in the state-level body and has generated discussion in the district’s political and social circles.
As vice-chairman, Singh will be involved in matters relating to citizens and the functioning of the Bihar Rajya Nagrik Parishad.
Harendra Bahadur Singh named general secretary
Harendra Bahadur Singh, son of Dr Indradev Singh and a resident of Pant in Bhojpur district, has been appointed general secretary.
Singh is regarded in political circles as a long-time associate of Nitish Kumar and has worked closely with him over the years. His appointment has therefore attracted particular attention within political circles.
There has also been speculation that Singh has taken over the position previously associated with Chhotu Singh, another long-time associate of Nitish Kumar.
However, the government notification does not state that Harendra Bahadur Singh has been appointed in place of Chhotu Singh. It only says that Singh has been nominated to the vacant post of general secretary.
Salary and other benefits
The notification states that the newly appointed vice-chairman and general secretary will receive salary, facilities and honorarium in accordance with the provisions of the relevant departmental notification.
With both appointments taking effect immediately, the Bihar government has now filled the two vacant positions in the Bihar Rajya Nagrik Parishad.
