Nalanda: In a bid to enhance the income of farmers and strengthen the rural economy, the state government has announced an ambitious beekeeping scheme. This initiative aims to promote beekeeping as a viable source of income for farmers while significantly increasing honey production in the region.
Rashek Kumar, Assistant Director of the Nalanda Industries Department, emphasized the profitability of beekeeping, stating, “Beekeeping is a very profitable employment opportunity. Farmers who have received training can apply online for this scheme.” Under the program, general category farmers will receive a subsidy of 75%, while farmers from scheduled categories will be eligible for up to 90% of the costs.
Key Features of the Scheme:
– The cost per unit (including box and hive) is fixed at ₹4,000.
– The target is to establish 1,500 beekeeping units in the district.
– Each beneficiary will be provided with 20 to 50 bee boxes and hives.
Farmers interested in the program can apply through the District Industries Center. However, only those who have undergone training will qualify for the benefits of the scheme.
This initiative is particularly advantageous for farmers, especially in areas rich in mango orchards, where favorable conditions for beekeeping exist. Additionally, beekeeping will contribute to increased crop production through improved pollination.
The application process has already commenced, with interested farmers able to apply online via the Industries Department’s portal. Department officials believe that this scheme will not only boost farmers’ incomes but also create new employment opportunities for rural youth.
