Supaul: Twelve people fell into the Bhenga River late Tuesday evening when a boat carrying them capsized in Belapatti village, Ward 1 of Gudia Panchayat, under the jurisdiction of Triveni Ganj police station. One woman died and four others remain missing.
The boat, which was ferrying twelve women, including two boatmen, was returning to Chakla village, Ward 2, Daharia Panchayat, from Belapatti with a load of grass and other crops. The deceased has been identified as Sanjan Devi, wife of Matal Mukhiya, a resident of Chakla village.
Other passengers included Gauri Devi, Sarita Devi, Avadhi Devi, Mamta Devi, Rima Kumari, Anjali Kumari, Kajal Kumari, Anita Devi, Pathari Devi, and Manju Devi.
Authorities, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sub-Divisional Police Officer, and personnel from Triveni Ganj, Jadya, and Chatapur police stations, rushed to the site to begin rescue operations. Seven people were rescued, but Sanjan Devi died shortly after being pulled from the water.
Dozens of divers are continuing the search for the four missing women. Sub-Divisional Officer Abhishek Kumar confirmed that additional teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been called in to assist with the ongoing search efforts.
