Patna: The Bihar Agriculture Management and Extension Training Institute (BAMETI) hosted a ceremony to release the “Bihar Swachhata Song,” part of the National Mechanized Sanitation Program, with an emphasis on the welfare of sanitation workers. During the event, PPE kits were distributed to 408 sanitation workers, underscoring the state’s commitment to their health and safety.
The program saw the attendance of Bihar’s Urban Development and Housing Department Minister, Nitin Nabeen, alongside Patna’s Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parasar, the city’s Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and numerous sanitation workers. The event began with a lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing a renewed commitment to cleanliness and worker protection.
Addressing the gathering, Municipal Commissioner Parasar highlighted the initiative’s focus on worker welfare. “The Urban Development Minister has directed the distribution of PPE kits to all sanitation workers. Our priority is to safeguard the health of those who dedicate themselves to maintaining ours,” he said. Parasar emphasized that sanitation workers, who often work in hazardous conditions, would now be equipped with PPE to reduce exposure to infections and health risks.
Minister Nabeen praised the efforts of sanitation workers, attributing the improved cleanliness of Patna to their dedication. “We must cultivate cleanliness as a habit. When cleanliness becomes second nature, our surroundings will naturally improve,” he noted. Nabeen also urged residents to minimize waste and respect the work of sanitation personnel.
As part of an ongoing effort to improve waste management, 2,000 sanitation workers have received training in garbage segregation. An additional 2,000 workers will undergo similar training following Chhath Puja, furthering the city’s sanitation goals. The minister advised sanitation workers to strictly use PPE kits when entering sewers for cleaning, emphasizing the importance of their safety.
