Patna: The Education Department in Bihar on Thursday transferred 9,017 teachers across districts, taking the total number of mutual transfers to 31,115 since July.
Earlier, 23,578 teachers had been transferred in three phases until August 11. The fourth phase saw another 9,017 teachers opt for transfers within just 10 days. The process allows teachers of the same category and subject – from primary to higher secondary – to exchange postings.
Applications were invited through the e-Shiksha Kosh portal, where groups of up to 10 teachers could apply for mutual transfers. The system, launched on June 26, was designed to give teachers the opportunity to select their preferred schools by arranging transfers among themselves.
The portal was first opened between July 10 and the end of the month and was reopened again on August 6. Education officials said the initiative had provided flexibility and transparency in teacher postings, easing longstanding demands for a fairer transfer policy.
