Patna: The monsoon remained uneven across Bihar on Friday, with some areas experiencing scorching sunshine while others received light showers. Bihta in Patna witnessed sudden rainfall in the morning, while drizzle was reported from Nalanda.
The Meteorological Center has issued a yellow alert for rainfall across 21 districts of the state today. Officials said the monsoon is likely to become active from August 22, bringing widespread showers between August 22 and 26. During this period, thunderstorms and winds at speeds of 30–40 kmph are also expected.
On Thursday, heavy rainfall lashed Katihar, Siwan, and Buxar, leading to waterlogging in several localities. Patna, however, remained cloudy without rain.
Rainfall Deficit at 27 Percent
According to data from the Meteorological Center, Bihar has so far received 507.7 mm of rain against the normal average of 690.9 mm—about 27 percent below the seasonal norm. Just a few days ago, the deficit had narrowed to 20 percent but has now widened again.
Why Monsoon Will Intensify
Meteorologists explained that moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal are currently moving towards Bihar, and the monsoon trough line is passing through parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. “This system will activate the monsoon from August 22, resulting in heavy to widespread rainfall across the state for four to five days,” a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Center said.
Forecast for Patna
The state capital is likely to witness drizzle on Friday, followed by heavy rainfall and intermittent showers over the next few days. Daytime temperatures are expected to fall by 2–3 degrees, with the maximum hovering around 30°C. While residents may get some relief from the humidity, waterlogging could create problems in low-lying areas.
Advisory for Farmers and Public
The Meteorological Department has advised farmers to avoid transplanting paddy or applying fertilizers during this rainy spell. People have also been cautioned against staying in open fields, standing under trees, or near electric poles during thunderstorms.
Rain Outlook for Bihar
Between August 22 and 26, southern and central districts are expected to receive heavy showers, while northern Bihar may see light to moderate rain. The heaviest rainfall is forecast for August 24 and 25.
