Samastipur: A shocking incident came to light in Mohiuddinpur village under Warisnagar police station area, where a 24-year-old woman, Seema Devi, was found dead inside her house on August 19. Her two young children, aged seven and nine, have alleged that their father, 35-year-old Paltan Ram, was responsible for the death.
In an emotional conversation with reporters, the children, Rupesh (7) and Sonakshi (9), recounted the harrowing events of the morning. “We both woke up and did not see mummy. When we asked papa, he first said she had gone out. Later, he told us he had killed mummy and buried her upstairs. He said we should also eat poison. I pretended to sleep to save myself, but didi was given the poison,” Rupesh said.
Sonakshi added, “When our health started deteriorating, I began crying. An aunt came, and we told her everything. Then others came to the house. Papa said he would go out to bring medicine but never returned.”
The children described how the father had dug a pit in a room in their house, where he allegedly buried Seema Devi’s body. “When we returned from the fair, papa was coming out of the new room covered in mud. We saw the pit, but could not understand what had happened,” Sonakshi said.
The deceased’s sister-in-law, Shobha Devi, shared background details of the family. She said the husband had been violent toward his first wife, who eventually left him. He remarried a 14-year-old girl, Seema Devi, and was reportedly suspicious and controlling. “Seema Devi went to Hyderabad to earn money due to repeated pressure. During this time, the children even refused to recognize her as their mother. After she returned, things seemed normal for a while,” Shobha said. She added that the father had constructed a locked room in the house and dug a pit inside, suggesting premeditation.
Warisnagar Police Station Chief Sarvesh Jha confirmed that the case is under investigation. “Initial information indicated the wife might have died under suspicious circumstances. When police reached the scene, her body was recovered inside the room. No external injuries were found. A forensic team has been called, and the postmortem report will clarify whether it is a case of murder or suicide,” he said.
The children’s account, combined with the circumstances of the locked room and buried body, has raised serious concerns among the local community. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact sequence of events and hold the responsible party accountable.
