Patna: The Bihar government has announced the long-awaited schedule for teacher transfers under the Bihar State Teacher Transfer Rules, 2026, with the online application portal set to open on July 29.
The Education Department on Friday issued the notification detailing the timeline for the state’s first comprehensive online transfer process. The system will cover adjustment, rationalisation, mutual transfers and general transfers, all of which will be conducted through a digital platform.
Applications From July 29 To August 5
According to the notification, eligible teachers can submit online applications from July 29 to August 5.
During this period, applications will be accepted for adjustment, rationalisation and mutual transfers. The department has advised teachers to complete the process within the prescribed deadline.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari said the government had fulfilled a long-standing demand of teachers by introducing a transparent online transfer mechanism. He had earlier announced that the transfer portal would become operational in July after the State Cabinet approved the new transfer rules on June 24.
Adjustment And Rationalisation First
The first phase of the transfer process will run from August 7 to September 9.
During this period, authorities will complete the adjustment and rationalisation process, including publication of provisional lists, disposal of objections and appeals, and issuance of the final lists.
Mutual Transfers In September
The second phase, covering mutual transfers, will take place from September 10 to September 14.
Applications will be scrutinised by the District Establishment Committee, Divisional Establishment Committee and State Establishment Committee, depending on the level of transfer involved.
General Transfer Process
The final phase will focus on general transfers.
A revised school-wise vacancy list will be published on September 16, after which teachers will be able to submit their preferred school choices online between September 17 and September 23.
The Education Department said the publication of the general transfer list, disposal of appeals and completion of all remaining formalities will be carried out between September 24 and October 31.
Entire Process To Be Online
The department said the entire transfer exercise will be conducted digitally to improve transparency and eliminate the need for teachers to make repeated visits to government offices.
District, divisional and state-level committees have been directed to complete every stage of the process within the notified timeline, while eligible teachers have been urged to apply through the online portal and follow departmental guidelines.
