Patna: Light rain in parts of Bihar, including Bagaha and Bettiah, brought relief from the humid weather on Saturday morning as cool winds and overcast skies improved conditions in the region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for five districts of Bihar, warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, and strong winds during the day. Weather conditions are expected to remain largely normal across the rest of the state, with intermittent cloud cover but little chance of significant rainfall.
According to the weather department, Bagaha and Begusarai recorded light rain and drizzle over the past 24 hours. In contrast, Patna, Sitamarhi, and Bettiah witnessed sunny and humid conditions before cloud cover increased on Saturday.
Humidity Persists Despite Cloud Cover
Meteorologists said Bihar currently has sufficient moisture at lower atmospheric levels, but strong weather systems capable of triggering widespread rainfall are absent. Although clouds continue to form, they are not producing rain across most areas.
Reduced wind speeds and persistent moisture have prevented sweat from evaporating quickly, making conditions feel more humid than usual despite limited sunshine.
Monsoon Likely to Regain Strength from July 20
The IMD has forecast that the southwest monsoon could become active again across Bihar from July 20, increasing the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall in several districts, with heavy showers possible in isolated locations.
The expected rise in rainfall activity is likely to bring down temperatures and provide relief from the prevailing humidity.
Patna to Remain Cloudy
In the state capital, Patna, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout Saturday. While isolated areas may receive light drizzle, the possibility of heavy rainfall remains low. Daytime temperatures are likely to stay slightly above normal, and high humidity is expected to persist.
Rainfall Deficit Raises Agricultural Concerns
Bihar continues to face a significant rainfall deficit this monsoon season. Against the normal cumulative rainfall of 316 mm, the state has received only 202.4 mm, leaving it 46% below normal so far.
The shortfall has raised concerns over agriculture and water resources. Experts warn that if widespread rainfall does not occur in the coming days, crop cultivation could be adversely affected.
