Patna: Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday said that teacher transfers across the state will be carried out during June, offering relief to thousands of government school teachers awaiting postings closer to their residences.
Speaking at a public programme in Sheikhpura, Choudhary said the government has directed the concerned department to complete the transfer process within the month.
Preference for postings closer to home
According to the chief minister, women teachers are expected to be posted in panchayats adjacent to their home panchayats, while male teachers may be transferred to neighbouring blocks.
He said the objective is to ensure that teachers can travel conveniently between their homes and schools, enabling them to focus more effectively on teaching and academic responsibilities.
The government has not yet released a detailed notification outlining the transfer policy or implementation schedule.
Move follows demands from teachers
Teacher transfer and posting has been a longstanding issue in Bihar, with many educators seeking relocation on personal and administrative grounds.
The proposed changes are expected to benefit teachers who are currently posted far from their places of residence.
SCERT issues training-related relief
Separately, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has issued fresh instructions regarding teacher training programmes.
Following intervention by Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, SCERT has said that teachers who were unable to attend training sessions during the 2025-26 academic year will be given another opportunity in the 2026-27 session.
Exemptions for teachers unable to attend training
According to the council’s directive, teachers who missed training because of duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), Assembly election responsibilities or health-related issues will be eligible to participate in future training sessions.
The order also states that teachers who are away from headquarters during the summer vacation period upto June 20, under previously approved plans, will not face departmental action if they are unable to attend scheduled training programmes during that period.
Awaiting detailed guidelines
While the chief minister has announced the proposed transfer framework, teachers and education officials are awaiting detailed operational guidelines from the Education Department regarding eligibility, timelines and implementation procedures.
