CHHAPRA: A clash between two communities during an idol immersion procession in Chhapra has heightened tensions in the region. In response, the administration has taken the precautionary measure of shutting down the internet for two days to maintain law and order. Although internet services have been halted at various locations in the city, it remains operational in some areas.
The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday morning in the New Bazaar locality under the jurisdiction of Bhagwan Bazar police station. Social elements reportedly pelted stones at the procession, triggering a sudden stampede. The chaotic situation led people to run in all directions to safeguard their lives, resulting in the damage of two idols of gods and goddesses.
Upon receiving the information, a significant number of police personnel, along with officers from the Bhagwan Bazaar police station, reached the spot. Superintendent of Police Dr. Gaurav Mangala and several senior police and administration officials also arrived promptly, taking charge of the situation and restoring order.
The clash resulted in injuries to about a dozen individuals from both sides. Ankit Kumar, son of Jairam Sah and a participant in the immersion procession, sustained severe injuries. Six other injured individuals received treatment at a private hospital. Additional injuries have been reported from the opposing side involved in the incident.
The decision to shut down internet services is aimed at preventing the spread of misinformation and controlling the situation to avoid any escalation. The administration is closely monitoring the aftermath of the clash to ensure the restoration of peace in the area.
