Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to construct a Tirupati temple on a 10-acre site in Mokama, Patna, a move that comes amid an intensifying political season in the state. The announcement was made by Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the state’s cultural and religious development initiatives.

Choudhary stated that the project is being undertaken following the directive of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, with an agreement reached with the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam in Andhra Pradesh. “A grand and magnificent Tirupati temple will be built in Mokama on approximately 10 acres of land,” he tweeted.
Officials say the temple is expected to bolster religious tourism, cultural engagement, and local employment in the region. The announcement arrives as political parties in Bihar continue discussions over seat-sharing and candidate selection for upcoming elections, with speculation mounting over the official election dates.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has intensified criticism of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, further fuelling the state’s pre-election political discourse. The Chief Election Commissioner of India, Gyanesh Kumar, is also scheduled to visit Bihar in the coming weeks, adding to the anticipation around the election schedule.
The construction of the Tirupati temple is being framed by the ruling government as a cultural initiative aimed at promoting faith and tourism, while analysts note the timing of the announcement may also have political implications in the run-up to the elections.
