Patna: The Bihar government is set to establish Labour Service Facilitation Centres in every district to improve access to registration, renewal and welfare schemes for workers in the unorganised and construction sectors.
At present, such centres are operational in Patna, Kaimur, Saran, Saharsa and Darbhanga. Acting on the directions of the Chief Minister, the Labour Resources and Migrant Workers Welfare Department has prepared a proposal to set up similar centres in the remaining 33 districts.
The state government has decided to make these centres operational by December 2026. They will provide online facilities for labour registration, renewal of registration and access to various welfare schemes, making it easier for workers to avail themselves of government benefits.
According to the department, the centres will also serve as information and outreach hubs, creating awareness about welfare schemes available to registered workers and helping them access eligible benefits.
Officials said the Bihar Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board has so far registered 42,31,405 workers across the state. This includes 11,06,086 registrations during the 2025–26 financial year and 4,131 registrations up to June 8 in the 2026–27 financial year.
Additional Chief Secretary K. Senthil Kumar said the state is conducting a large-scale registration drive for workers while simultaneously creating a comprehensive database of migrant workers. The initiative aims to ensure that migrant labourers receive the benefits of social security and welfare schemes without interruption.
As part of this effort, 6,84,708 migrant workers had registered on the Bihar Pravasi Kamgar App as of June 10, providing the government with a growing database to improve policy implementation and welfare delivery.
