Patna: Bihar’s ancient spiritual and historical landmarks, including Mundeshwari Temple and Vishnupad Temple, will be linked through dedicated tourism corridors as part of a broader plan to expand religious tourism and preserve the state’s heritage, chief minister Samrat Choudhary said on Wednesday.
The announcement was made during a public welfare camp held in Nadiyama village of Phulwari Sharif, where Choudhary also outlined the government’s wider development agenda covering welfare schemes, education, women’s empowerment and infrastructure.
Focus on key pilgrimage and heritage sites
Choudhary said Bihar, with its rich tradition of spirituality, culture and history, was home to several important destinations that needed stronger recognition and better infrastructure.
He said the government would prioritise the development of major sites such as Mundeshwari Dham in Kaimur, Hariharnath Temple in Sonepur, Vishnupad temple in Gaya, the ruins of Nalanda University and Vikramshila Mahavihara.
Officials said the sites would be upgraded with improved roads, transport access and visitor facilities.
Tourism corridors and economic growth
The deputy chief minister said the proposed religious tourism circuits would allow visitors to cover multiple destinations in a single journey, making travel more convenient.
He said the move was expected to boost the hospitality sector, transport services, handicrafts and local businesses, while generating employment for young people.
Welfare camps across Bihar
Choudhary said the public welfare camps were aimed at reducing the gap between the government and citizens.
He said such camps were being organised across all 534 blocks in Bihar to address grievances on the spot and ensure welfare benefits reached eligible beneficiaries directly.
Development projects worth Rs. 71 crore
During the event, Choudhary inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects worth around Rs. 71 crore in Phulwari Sharif block.
The projects cover sectors including roads, healthcare, education, drinking water, building construction and rural development.
Education and welfare measures
The deputy chief minister announced that Nadiyama Middle School would be upgraded to a plus-two school and said the government was working to modernise public schools with smart classrooms, laboratories, libraries and sports facilities.
He also highlighted welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, housing assistance and pension programmes, adding that pension amounts for elderly, widowed and differently abled beneficiaries had been increased from Rs. 400 to Rs. 1,100.
Women’s safety and governance
Choudhary said women’s safety remained a key priority for the government and that prompt action was being taken in cases involving crime and harassment.
He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards crime and corruption, saying law enforcement agencies were being strengthened with modern resources.
