Patna: Bihar is taking a big step to make travel easier for both domestic and international tourists. The state’s Tourism Department is going digital with the launch of its own tourism app, interactive map, and a dedicated online platform. These tools will give visitors complete information about famous tourist spots as well as lesser-known places, helping them plan trips more easily. The decision was made in a review meeting led by Tourism Secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Devre, with the goal of boosting Bihar’s tourism and making it more accessible to everyone.
The new tourism map will show not only major destinations but also nearby attractions, facilities, and travel routes. It will be available on the digital platform and the app, so tourists can use it anywhere, anytime. The app will also provide information about hotels, transportation, local festivals, events, and cultural attractions. The Tourism Department plans to promote Bihar’s cultural heritage, religious sites, and natural beauty through social media to attract visitors from across India and abroad.
Tourist guides in Bihar will also receive special training to improve visitor experiences. Around 200 guides will be trained in multiple languages, polite behaviour, and detailed knowledge of historical and cultural landmarks. Staff working at tourist spots will get practical training to ensure they can provide helpful and friendly assistance. These efforts are expected to make tourism in Bihar more professional and enjoyable for everyone.
The state is also encouraging adventure tourism and better access to tourist destinations. Plans include allowing four-wheeler access to popular sites and potentially building a hotel near Karmachat Dam in Kaimur district. For the first time, Bihar will also accurately count domestic and foreign tourists separately to track visitor numbers more precisely. Last year, 66 million tourists visited the state, with nearly 737,000 from abroad. From January to May 2025 alone, around 17.8 million tourists arrived in Bihar. Weekly review meetings will ensure that all projects are completed on time and that Bihar’s tourism continues to grow.
