Patna: The Bihar tourism department on Tuesday launched its New Year diary and calendar, with the tourism minister Arun Shankar Prasad outlining plans to strengthen infrastructure, branding, and employment opportunities linked to the sector.
The diary, calendar, and table calendar were unveiled at the tourism minister’s office in the state secretariat by the minister, along with tourism secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation (BSTDC) managing director Nand Kishore, and tourism director Udayan Mishra.
Speaking at the event, Minister Prasad said Bihar had significant potential across religious, heritage, and eco-tourism, and that the government was continuously working to improve basic infrastructure around tourist destinations. He said the state had seen a steady flow of visitors in recent years.
Tourism officials, he added, were focused on improving facilities to make Bihar a safer, more accessible, and tourist-friendly destination. Highlighting the state’s natural and cultural assets, the Minister said Bihar offered forests, safari parks, history and heritage, and held special significance as the birthplace of Gautama Buddha, Lord Mahavira, and Goddess Sita.

The minister said the department was intensifying efforts to improve the branding of Bihar’s tourist destinations to increase awareness and encourage travel to the state. A key objective, he said, was to increase the average length of tourist stays, which would help generate greater employment opportunities for local communities.
Minister Prasad said the department was also working to establish Bihar tourism as a recognisable brand both nationally and internationally. Tourism, he noted, plays a significant role in generating both permanent and temporary employment.
He added that the government was focusing on ensuring local businesses benefit from tourism growth, with attention being given to the development of both five-star hotels and budget accommodation to make travel more accessible to a wider range of visitors.
According to the minister, Bihar currently ranks tenth nationally in terms of tourist numbers. He said the tourism department was working strategically to improve the state’s position over the next five years.
