Patna : The Bihar Transport Department has developed a dedicated portal to monitor vehicles and drivers used by private schools, as part of a digital initiative aimed at strengthening the safety of schoolchildren.
The portal has been prepared and will be made live after its integration with the Vahan and Sarathi platforms, according to the department.
Once operational, all private schools across Bihar will have to register on the portal and upload complete details of the vehicles and drivers operating for student transport.
School Vehicles To Be Registered
Schools will have to provide details of all types of vehicles used to transport students, including school buses, mini-buses and vans.
The portal will also require information related to mandatory vehicle documents, including fitness certificates, insurance, permits and other required records.
The centralised database is intended to give the Transport Department a clearer picture of school transport vehicles operating across the state and make regulatory monitoring more efficient.
Alerts For Expired Fitness And Insurance
The system will also provide automatic alerts when important vehicle documents expire.
If a vehicle’s fitness certificate or insurance becomes invalid, information will be sent automatically to the Transport Department and the concerned school management.
This will allow schools to take timely steps to renew the documents and help prevent vehicles with expired mandatory documents from continuing to operate.
Real-Time Monitoring Planned
The department said the new system will make real-time monitoring of school vehicles possible, strengthening oversight of vehicles used by students.
The initiative will also bring vehicle and driver information into a single digital database, allowing authorities to access updated records and monitor compliance more effectively.
The portal is expected to become operational once its integration with the Vahan and Sarathi systems is completed.
