Patna: A newly constructed railway bypass in Bihar’s Supaul district is set to undergo its final safety inspection on Friday, a step that will pave the way for the creation of two new railway junctions and faster train movement on a key regional route.
The inspection will be carried out by the commissioner of railway safety (CRS) on the Nirmali–Tharbitia section of the Saharsa–Darbhanga line. The 4.2km bypass connects the upcoming New Jhaja junction with Baijnathpur Andauli junction, both of which are expected to become operational once clearance is granted.
Senior officials from the Samastipur railway division, including the divisional railway manager, are scheduled to be present during the inspection. Railway authorities said the track, signalling system and other technical infrastructure have already been completed and tested internally.
As part of the safety process, a freight train will first be run on the new line to assess track strength and operational reliability. If approved by the CRS, regular movement of goods trains will begin immediately, followed by the introduction of long-distance passenger services on the Saharsa–Darbhanga route.
Officials believe the project will significantly reduce congestion and improve average train speeds in the region, addressing a long-standing demand of passengers and local businesses.
The two new junctions are also expected to stimulate economic activity in nearby villages by improving access to markets and transport networks. Residents say better rail connectivity could generate new employment opportunities and support small trade in one of the state’s less-developed districts.
For Supaul, railway officials described the project as a major milestone in its transport infrastructure, one that could reshape travel patterns and strengthen links with other parts of Bihar.
