Patna: The first phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s voter list concluded on Saturday as per the directives of the Election Commission (EC). With the closure of the ECI Net window for online form submissions, approximately 7.23 crore out of the state’s 7.90 crore voters have successfully submitted their counting forms, which have been digitally uploaded. The Election Commission confirmed that all these 7.23 crore voters will be included in the upcoming draft voter list, while the names of an estimated 65.2 lakh voters are set for deletion.
The initial phase of SIR ran from June 24 to July 26, involving extensive cooperation from government employees engaged in election duties, along with support from 12 recognized national and state-level political parties and municipal body staff. According to reports compiled from Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) until Friday, the significant figure of 65.2 lakh deletions has been identified. The EC noted that an impressive 99.8 percent of Bihar’s voters participated in this special intensive revision exercise.
Draft List Publication and Claims Process Ahead
Following the successful completion of SIR’s first phase, preparations are now underway for the publication of the draft voter list. This involves updating the data on the control table and then updating booth-wise information. The final draft voter list is slated for publication on August 1.
The period for receiving and settling claims and objections will run from August 1 to August 30. During this crucial window, voters whose names could not be included in the initial draft list will have the opportunity to apply afresh by filling the prescribed form and submitting necessary documents. This process will be facilitated both online and through BLOs, ensuring accessibility for all eligible citizens.
