Patna: Weather conditions across Bihar are likely to remain unstable over the next few days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain in 20 districts on Tuesday. Officials have warned that wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h during this period.
According to the weather department, while parts of the state may experience gusty winds and rain, the remaining districts are expected to witness relatively normal weather conditions. The maximum temperature across Bihar is likely to remain between 34°C and 38°C over the coming days.
Weather activity was already reported in several districts on Monday. In Raxaul, a strong dust storm accompanied by gusty winds brought a noticeable drop in temperature by late evening. Bagaha experienced cloudy skies along with strong winds throughout the day.
Meanwhile, several areas around Pauakhali in Kishanganj district witnessed heavy rain accompanied by hailstorms on Monday evening. Similar weather conditions were reported in Araria, where hail and strong winds were recorded late in the evening.
In the last 24 hours, Nalanda remained the hottest district in the state, with temperatures hovering around 36°C. Patna also recorded a maximum temperature of around 35°C.
Meteorologists attributed the fluctuating weather conditions to increased moisture levels in the lower atmosphere combined with local atmospheric activity. They said the impact of rainfall and strong winds is likely to be more pronounced in the northern and eastern districts of Bihar.
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid open areas during lightning activity.
Visuals from different parts of the state reflected the changing weather conditions. Kishanganj witnessed intense hailstorms accompanied by strong winds on Monday evening, while Araria also reported hail. In Raxaul, strong winds during the evening brought relief from the heat.
In Darbhanga, dense fog reduced visibility, forcing motorists to drive with headlights on. Children were also seen playing cricket amid the foggy conditions. Samastipur recorded thick fog during the early hours on Monday morning.
Weather scientists have predicted that conditions may remain unstable in Bihar for the next seven days. Several districts could witness intermittent clouds, thunderstorms, gusty winds and light rainfall during this period.
Experts said the northern and eastern districts are likely to experience a stronger impact of these weather changes, while southern and western Bihar may see comparatively stable weather. In these regions, cloudy conditions may alternate with sunny spells, which could lead to a slight rise in temperature.
In Patna, the weather is expected to remain largely normal for now. Light cloud cover may persist in the sky, but the possibility of rainfall remains low.
The IMD has forecast that Patna’s maximum temperature may remain between 35°C and 37°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to stay between 21°C and 23°C. Residents may experience mild heat during the day, though evenings could remain relatively pleasant.
Meteorologists also indicated that extreme heat is likely to intensify gradually toward the end of March. With decreasing cloud cover and reduced rainfall activity, temperatures may start rising steadily.
From the first week of April, temperatures in several districts of Bihar could approach 40°C. Heatwave-like conditions may also develop in parts of the state, particularly in southern and western Bihar, where the impact of rising temperatures is expected to be stronger.
