Patna: Amid the ongoing intense heatwave conditions in Bihar, several parts of the state witnessed thunderstorms and rainfall on Monday evening, bringing slight relief from the humid weather on Tuesday. The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for 24 districts on Wednesday, warning of thunderstorms, rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning strikes.
According to the weather department, wind speeds may reach up to 40 kmph in the alert districts. Residents have also been cautioned about the possibility of lightning incidents, while people in the remaining districts are likely to continue facing uncomfortable and humid conditions.
Over the past 24 hours, rainfall was reported in Khagaria, while Begusarai experienced cloudy skies and pleasant weather conditions. Patna continued to witness humidity, though the intensity of the heat reduced compared to previous days.
In view of the prevailing heat conditions, the Jehanabad district administration has ordered the closure of schools up to Class 5. Timings for higher classes have also been revised.
Weather Changing Due to Bay of Bengal Moisture and Western Disturbance
The Meteorological Centre stated that the changing weather pattern in Bihar is being caused by moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal combined with the impact of an active western disturbance.
Moisture from the Bay of Bengal is continuously moving towards eastern Bihar, while the western disturbance approaching from the northwest is creating atmospheric instability. As a result, cloud formation and thunderstorm activity are increasing across several parts of the state.
Weather scientists explained that intense sunlight and high daytime temperatures are heating the ground surface, while increased moisture in the upper atmosphere is storing energy. This combination is leading to sudden evening thunderstorms, strong winds, thunder, and rainfall activity.
The weather department said similar conditions are likely to continue over the next few days, especially in north and eastern Bihar, where rapid weather changes are expected. People have been advised to stay away from open fields, trees, and electric poles during lightning activity.
Temperature Drops Recorded Across Several Districts
Rainfall and strong winds during the last 24 hours led to a drop of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across many districts. However, temperatures in some areas are still hovering above 40 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Centre, maximum temperatures between 32 and 38 degrees Celsius were recorded in 34 districts, providing partial relief compared to the extreme heat experienced earlier this week.
Patna Weather Forecast
The state capital is expected to witness sunny conditions throughout Wednesday, resulting in continued humid weather. However, cloud cover and light rainfall are likely during the afternoon or evening hours.
Strong winds may also occur in some areas. The maximum temperature in Patna is expected to remain between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to hover around 27 degrees Celsius.
Rain, Thunderstorms Likely Over Next 4–5 Days
The weather department has predicted fluctuating weather conditions across Bihar over the next four to five days. Several districts may witness intermittent rainfall, gusty winds, and lightning activity.
Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, while no significant change is expected in minimum temperatures.
Meanwhile, Samastipur witnessed late-night rainfall accompanied by strong winds, resulting in waterlogging in some areas. Around 10 mm rainfall was recorded in the district, with the maximum temperature settling at 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 20 degrees Celsius.
