Patna: Parts of Bihar have seen brief relief from the winter chill as sunshine during the day has pushed temperatures to comfortable levels. Despite this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fresh warning, cautioning that cold conditions may intensify again within the next 48 hours.
Residents continue to experience sharp cold during the early morning and evening hours. While afternoons have remained relatively pleasant, weather officials say the improvement is temporary and that a renewed spell of chilly weather is likely to set in soon.
According to the IMD’s forecast, normal winter conditions are expected to prevail across the state for the next seven days. Maximum temperatures may rise slightly after two days, but concerns remain over reduced visibility. A yellow alert has been issued for dense fog in parts of six to seven districts, particularly in the Himalayan foothills and the Seemanchal region. Other areas are expected to see moderate fog during the morning.
Forecasters have also indicated a possible change in weather later this month. A strong western disturbance is likely to affect Bihar by January 17, which could bring light rainfall on January 20 and 21. This rain may further increase the cold, especially at night, as north-westerly winds continue to lower temperatures.
Over the past 24 hours, the lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at 5.9°C in Sabour, Bhagalpur. Minimum temperatures across Bihar ranged between 5.9°C and 12.5°C. Motihari in East Champaran reported the lowest visibility at 400 metres due to fog. Meanwhile, maximum temperatures remained near normal, ranging from 20.6°C to 25.7°C, with the highest recorded at 25.7°C.
