Patna: The brief respite from the winter chill in Bihar is set to end, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a fresh drop in night temperatures from Sunday. The easing of cold conditions over recent days had been linked to a slowdown in westerly winds, but the weather agency says this relief will be short-lived.
Minimum temperatures across most districts are expected to fall by 2–4°C, with several cities likely to slip below 10°C during the night. Daytime temperatures, however, are not expected to change significantly and will remain broadly stable through the week. Conditions are expected to stay dry.
Light to moderate fog is likely during the morning hours, potentially affecting visibility. The IMD and the Bihar Mausam Seva Kendra have issued a fog alert for the next 48 hours, warning of extremely low visibility during late-night and early-morning hours. Districts under alert include Patna, Gaya, Aurangabad, Bhojpur, Buxar, Nalanda and several pockets in East and West Champaran.

On Saturday morning, a layer of fog enveloped large parts of the state, reducing visibility to as little as 10–20 metres in some areas. While skies are expected to clear marginally by afternoon, authorities have urged caution during the early hours.
Daytime temperatures are forecast to range between 26°C and 32°C, with night-time temperatures expected to settle between 12°C and 18°C. Light westerly winds of around 20–25 km/h will continue, keeping conditions dry but adding to fog formation as humidity remains high.
According to the latest IMD outlook, the coming week will bring a mix of fog and mild cold across Bihar. In south Bihar, daytime temperatures are expected to hover between 26°C and 28°C, while northern and central districts may see temperatures rise slightly to 28–30°C. Most districts will experience night temperatures of 14–16°C, with slightly cooler conditions — around 12–14°C — anticipated in the southwest and south-central regions.
Experts have cautioned that air quality may worsen under persistent fog and haze. People with asthma or respiratory conditions are advised to wear masks when stepping outdoors.
