Patna: Bihar continues to experience sharply contrasting weather conditions, with intense heat persisting in several districts even as storms and heavy rainfall disrupt life across large parts of the state.
From Monday afternoon until Tuesday morning, rainfall ranging from light to heavy intensity was recorded across 25 districts. According to weather officials, Pranpur received the highest rainfall, recording 132.8 mm during the period.
The changing weather conditions also brought temporary relief from the heat in many districts, with maximum temperatures dropping by up to 4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
Temperatures Still Above 40C in Four Districts
Despite the rainfall activity and prevailing easterly winds, several districts in south-west Bihar continued to record extreme temperatures.
The highest temperatures recorded on Tuesday included:
- 43.6C in Bhabhua
- 42.4C in Dehri
- 40.8C in Aurangabad
- 40.3C in Chapra
However, several districts witnessed a noticeable fall in daytime temperatures. Mercury levels declined by:
- 3.6C in Rohtas
- 3.7C in Aurangabad
- 4C in Gaya
Strong storms with wind speeds reaching up to 61 km/h were also reported in several areas on Monday night.
IMD Forecasts Continued Contrast in Weather
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that Bihar will continue to witness two contrasting weather patterns on Wednesday.
According to the department:
- Six districts in south-west Bihar are expected to remain under severe heat conditions due to dry weather
- The remaining parts of the state are likely to experience thunderstorms, rainfall and strong winds
Rainfall has been forecast in 24 districts on May 27, while isolated showers are also likely at one or two locations in parts of south-central Bihar.
Orange Alert Issued for Heavy Rain
The IMD has issued an Orange Alert for:
- Madhepura
- Purnia
The alert warns of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and winds gusting between 50 and 60 km/h.
A Yellow Alert has also been issued for districts in south-central Bihar, warning of thunderstorms and winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h at isolated locations.
Patna Likely to Receive Rain for Three Days
Patna is expected to witness rainfall activity over a three-day period beginning Wednesday.
While skies are likely to remain largely clear on Wednesday, thunderstorms accompanied by rain are forecast from Thursday onwards at isolated locations within the district.
Weather officials said overcast conditions are expected to prevail across most parts of Patna during this period.
The capital has also seen a shift in wind patterns. After several days of westerly winds, easterly winds began influencing the city from Monday evening, bringing partial relief from the heat.
Patna recorded:
- Maximum temperature: 38.4C
- Minimum temperature: 25.6C
The minimum temperature dropped by 2.6C, while the maximum temperature rose marginally by 0.2C.
