Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts in Bihar as monsoon activity intensifies across the state. From July 26 to July 28, moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and wind speeds of 30–40 km/h is expected in different parts of Bihar.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the renewed monsoon system is likely to bring widespread rainfall, with some areas expected to receive heavy showers over the three-day period.
Yellow Alert for Western and Eastern Bihar on July 26
The first phase of the weather system is expected to affect western and eastern Bihar on July 26.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Arwal.
Rain accompanied by strong winds is also forecast for the Seemanchal and eastern districts, including Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia and Katihar.
Monsoon Activity to Expand on July 27
On July 27, the monsoon system is expected to spread further across north and central Bihar.
The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Madhubani and Darbhanga.
Warnings for rainfall and lightning have also been issued for the south-western districts of Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Arwal. Meanwhile, districts in eastern and south-eastern Bihar are expected to remain in the Green Zone during this period.
Widespread Rainfall Forecast on July 28
The weather system is expected to be at its strongest on July 28, with rainfall likely across most parts of Bihar.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for nearly all districts in western and eastern Bihar, along with Gaya, Jehanabad, Bhagalpur, Banka, Munger, Jamui, Lakhisarai and Sheikhpura.
The IMD has indicated that Muzaffarpur and Vaishali could experience heavy rainfall. However, Patna, Nalanda, Darbhanga and Samastipur are currently expected to remain in the Green Zone, according to the latest forecast.
Public Advisory Issued
The Meteorological Department has advised residents to remain alert over the next three days due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds reaching 30–40 km/h.
People have been advised to avoid open fields and to stay away from tall trees, electric poles and overhead power lines during thunderstorms. Farmers and those travelling outdoors have also been urged to monitor the latest weather updates and follow official advisories issued by the IMD.
