Patna: Weather conditions have shifted across several parts of Bihar, with heavy rain lashing Patna on Tuesday and triggering waterlogging in several areas. The capital recorded around 24 mm of rainfall during the day.
Heavy rain was also reported in Supaul late in the evening, while intermittent showers continued in Buxar, Bhojpur and Khagaria.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert for rainfall in 14 districts, including Patna. For Wednesday, September 2, a Yellow Alert has been issued for 31 districts, with rain, lightning and strong winds expected in several areas.
Heavy rain warning for Gaya, Nawada and Jamui
A spell of heavy rainfall is expected to continue across southern and eastern Bihar over the next 24 hours.
The Patna Meteorological Centre has specifically issued a heavy-rain warning for Gaya, Nawada and Jamui for Wednesday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squally winds are also likely across parts of north-west, south-west, north-central, south-central and south-eastern Bihar.
However, monsoon activity is expected to remain relatively weak over the Kosi and Seemanchal regions.
31 districts under Yellow Alert
The Yellow Alert for Wednesday covers:
Patna, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Ara, Chhapra, Siwan, Gopalganj, Motihari, Bettiah, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Nawada, Arwal, Jehanabad, Buxar, Sheikhpura, Nalanda, Munger, Begusarai, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Banka, Khagaria, Samastipur, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Sheohar.
The department has warned of adverse weather conditions in some parts of these districts, including thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and rain.
Gaya records highest rainfall
Monsoon activity remained active across several parts of Bihar on Tuesday, particularly in the southern districts.
Gaya recorded the highest rainfall at 55.4 mm. Patna experienced another spell of heavy rain in the evening, resulting in waterlogging in several parts of the city.

Cyclonic circulation likely to influence Bihar
According to meteorologists, a cyclonic circulation has developed over Odisha and Jharkhand and is expected to move northwestwards.
The system is likely to influence weather conditions in Bihar and could contribute to the ongoing spell of rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department has also forecast a 2°C to 3°C fall in temperatures in southern Bihar over the next two days as rainfall activity continues.
