Patna: A shift in weather patterns is set to bring turbulent conditions across Bihar, with forecasts warning of strong winds, thunderstorms and rainfall over the coming days. Officials have issued alerts for nearly all districts, signalling a period of unsettled weather after relatively stable conditions.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Patna, the change is expected between March 20 and 22, when most parts of the state may witness gusty winds, thunder and light to moderate rainfall. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly during periods of lightning and high wind activity.
A yellow alert has been declared across a wide swathe of districts, including West and East Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur and Gaya, among others. The advisory indicates the possibility of weather disruptions that could affect daily life, though it stops short of signalling severe danger.
Forecasters say wind speeds could reach 30–40 km/h around March 21, increasing further to 40–50 km/h the following day. Lightning strikes and thunderstorms are also likely in several regions, raising concerns about safety, especially in open areas and rural zones.
Despite the looming changes, parts of south and southwest Bihar—including districts such as Buxar, Rohtas and Aurangabad—are not expected to face significant warnings until March 20. This offers a brief window of relatively calm conditions before the system intensifies.
Temperatures in Patna are expected to remain steady between 32°C and 35°C during the day, with nighttime readings hovering between 20°C and 22°C. The city may experience partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain or thunderstorms around March 21.
Over the past 24 hours, Patna has recorded dry weather with temperatures within the same range. Authorities have urged people to avoid staying outdoors during strong winds and lightning, emphasising basic safety precautions as the state prepares for a spell of unstable weather.
