Patna: Heavy rain lashed parts of Bihar, including Khagaria and Katihar, on Sunday even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a thunderstorm and rain alert for 26 districts across the state. Amid the changing weather conditions, Bihar also recorded its highest maximum temperature of the season, touching 46 degrees Celsius for the first time this year.
In Bhagalpur, a couple was reportedly trapped inside their house after a tree collapsed due to strong winds and rain. Local residents and authorities rushed to the spot to carry out rescue efforts.
The sudden spell of rain brought temporary relief from the scorching heat in some districts, but weather officials warned that thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds could continue in several parts of Bihar over the next 24 hours.
According to weather department officials, districts under alert may witness moderate to heavy rainfall, lightning activity, and strong winds. Residents have been advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles.
Meanwhile, the severe heatwave conditions continued to affect many areas of the state. Several districts reported temperatures above normal, with the mercury soaring to 46°C, making it the hottest day of the season so far in Bihar.
Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and disaster management teams have been kept on alert in vulnerable districts. Citizens have also been urged to stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during peak afternoon hours.
The contrasting weather pattern of intense heat and sudden thunderstorms has raised concerns over public safety, crop damage, and disruption in daily life across several districts of Bihar.
