Patna: Bihar is expected to experience another spell of hot and humid weather today, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a Yellow Alert for thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in 18 districts even as the southwest monsoon continues to underperform across the state.
Rainfall remained limited across most parts of Bihar, including Patna, on Saturday, leaving residents to contend with oppressive humidity despite cloudy conditions.
Yellow Alert For 18 Districts
According to the IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds are likely at isolated places in 18 districts on Sunday.
The weather office has advised residents to remain alert during adverse weather, avoid open spaces during lightning, and seek shelter in safe buildings if thunderstorms develop.
Farmers have also been advised to avoid working in fields when there is a risk of lightning strikes.
Temperatures Likely To Rise Before Rain Returns
The IMD has forecast that maximum temperatures could increase by 1°C to 3°C over the next 48 hours.
After this brief rise, rainfall activity is expected to intensify as the monsoon regains strength, leading to a gradual fall in temperatures and relief from the prevailing humid conditions.
Bihar Records 52% Rainfall Deficit
The state continues to face a significant rainfall shortfall this monsoon season.
According to official data, Bihar has received 98.5 mm of rainfall so far, compared with the normal 207.3 mm for the corresponding period, leaving the state with a 52% rainfall deficit.
The deficient rainfall has contributed to persistent heat and humidity across many districts.
Bhabhua Hottest In State
On Saturday, maximum temperatures across Bihar ranged between 34.2°C and 38.5°C.
Bhabhua recorded the state’s highest maximum temperature at 38.5°C, while several other districts also reported temperatures close to 38°C. No district recorded temperatures above 40°C.
Patna Forecast
Patna is expected to witness cloudy skies over the next four days, with the possibility of intermittent light rain and thundershowers.
The city’s maximum temperature is forecast to remain between 34°C and 36°C, while the minimum is expected to range between 28°C and 30°C.
The IMD said rainfall activity is likely to strengthen later in the week, bringing improved monsoon conditions across parts of Bihar.
