Patna: The southwest monsoon has started withdrawing from Bihar, although some weather systems remain active and may bring light rain to parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in 18 districts on Wednesday, with a possibility of lightning at some places.
Weather conditions in Patna and most other districts are expected to remain largely normal. Day temperatures may rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius.
During the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in parts of Munger, Gaya, Banka and Motihari, among other districts. Patna experienced alternating spells of sunshine and cloud cover throughout the day.
Meanwhile, flooding continues to affect around 466 villages across six districts, with nearly eight lakh people impacted. Saran remains among the worst-affected districts. The water level of the Ganga in Patna, however, has started showing a gradual decline.
Monsoon withdrawal line passes through Supaul
The southwest monsoon is gradually retreating from Bihar, with the withdrawal line currently passing through Supaul in northeastern Bihar. The retreat is expected to further reduce rainfall activity across the state.
According to the Meteorological Centre, a trough extending from northeastern Bihar to the northwest Bay of Bengal is positioned around 0.9 km above sea level. The trough passes through Jharkhand and the Gangetic West Bengal region and may trigger light rain in some parts of Bihar.
Another trough is extending from south Bihar to Vidarbha at around 5.8 km above sea level, passing through eastern Madhya Pradesh. Its influence could lead to some changes in weather conditions over parts of south Bihar.
However, a cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and adjoining areas is weakening. A trough extending from north Bangladesh to Odisha through Gangetic West Bengal has also weakened. As a result, there is no significant possibility of heavy rainfall in Bihar.
Patna weather forecast
Patna is likely to remain warm and humid, with sunshine during the day. The maximum temperature may rise, although cloud formation is possible due to the influence of the prevailing weather systems.
The possibility of rain in the capital remains low. Over the next few days, the impact of the southwest monsoon’s withdrawal is expected to become more evident, with most parts of Bihar likely to experience generally normal weather conditions.
